Li Fulong, director of Development Planning Department of the National Energy Administration, said China's energy consumption realized rapid growth in the first half of this year.

Li Fulong said that since this year, the whole society's electricity consumption has grown rapidly, and the contribution rate of industrial electricity consumption is significantly higher than that of previous years. In the first half of this year, the total electricity consumption increased by 16.2% year-on-year, 15.8% increase compared with the same period in 2019, with an average growth of 7.6% in the same period of the two years.

In the first half of this year, coal consumption increased by 10.7% year-on-year, 8.1% increase compared with the same period in 2019, with significant growth in coal used for power generation and building materials. Natural gas consumption continued to grow rapidly, and industrial gas consumption exceeded the level of previous years. Natural gas market demand in the first half of the year was strong, up 21.2% year-on-year. Among them, industrial gas consumption increased by 26.6% year-on-year, contributing 44.7%; the consumption of gas for power generation increased by 15.2% year-on-year, and the role of gas and electricity in ensuring power supply was further demonstrated.
