According to statistics released by the national customs, China exported 7.027 million tons of ammonium sulfate in 2019, up 3.01% year-on-year. Ammonium sulfate exported more than diammonium phosphate, becoming China's largest export fertilizer.

Statistics showed that in recent years, the export volume of ammonium sulfate in China has reached a new high. In 2017, ammonium sulfate was exported 5.846 million tons, up 16.4% year-on-year, and the export volume remained above 5 million tons for three consecutive years. In 2018, ammonium sulfate was exported 6.821 million tons, up 16.6% year-on-year, and the export volume exceeded 6 million tons for the first time. In 2019, even further, exports were pushed above 7 million tons, hitting a new high.

The reason for the export volume of ammonium sulfate hitting a record high is the continuous increase of ammonium sulfate production in China. The production of ammonium sulfate was mainly from the coking line before, in recent years, as the national environmental requirements are increasingly high, electric desulfurization, chemical desulfurization and other desulfurization equipment are constructed, part of the by-products is ammonium sulfate. In addition, caprolactam industry was developing rapidly, and the production of ammonium caprolactam sulfate was also increasing rapidly. Because of limited domestic demand, companies have stepped up exports, export volume grew rapidly.

Secondly, it benefited from policy incentives. As a by-product of environmental protection, ammonium sulfate enjoyed the zero-tariff export policy earlier, which made it firmly establish in the international market earlier.

Thirdly, southeast Asia market developed better. Southeast Asia is close to China and has inherent advantages in location. The region is also one of the largest ammonium sulfate demand regions in the world. Vietnam alone has an annual demand of 600,000 tons of ammonium sulfate and relies mostly on imports. In addition, ammonium sulfate demand of the Philippines, Malaysia and other countries is also larger. Southeast Asia is the traditional market for ammonium sulfate export of China, and the products of some domestic manufacturers have formed certain brand advantages in this region.
