Port congestion in many countries around the would Comefrom:Sinotransbooking    AddDate:2020-07-15    Hit:2149
Recently, the major congested ports are:

1. Increased port congestion in Europe and North America

As societies in Europe and North America reopened and activities increased, ports in these regions encountered increasing traffic congestion. According to the latest Covid-19 Port Barometer Report released by the International Association of Port and Harbors, major container ports in Europe and North America had to deal with more containers than ever before due to the impact of closures.

Although shipping companies have cancelled a large number of voyages in the past few months, the rebound in demand has meant a higher utilization rate of sailing voyages, causing a sudden activity peak at ports.

2. Port santos, Brazil

In early June, there was severe congestion in Santos port, Brazil, South America's largest container port, with more than 70 ships lining up to load sugar for export, and buyers around the world scrambling to import ahead of the potential impact of the epidemic, all of which could take a month to be loaded.

3. Lagos and Apapa Port, Nigeria

According to foreign media reports, many ships carrying goods to Nigerian ports have been forced to wait 50 days at their berths before they can enter the port to unload the full containers. As a result, there have been severe congestion at various ports.

At present, ships have been waiting for dozens of days at Lagos and Tincan ports in Nigeria. In addition to the increased transit time, about 1,000 containers of raw materials for export have been stranded along the export corridor due to traffic chaos caused by trucks carrying exported goods. It was reported that the congestion was blamed on importers abandoning shipments that had already arrived at the port. Many importers refused to clear their goods because they were not sure when to deliver.

In addition, more than 800 exported containers have been dumped at Apapa because of congestion at the port, preventing cargoes from reaching the dock.Accordingly, the Nigerian Shipper Council (NSC) ensured the resumption of cargo evacuation by rail at Apapa.

4. Cape Town, Africa

In the big port in South African, Cape Town, the container terminal has emerged severe congestion, with ship being delayed for up to a week, forcing shipping companies serving for South African routes to reset their schedules and imposing port congestion surcharges on shippers who continue to use the eastern Cape Town terminal.

It was reported that Cape Town is known to have one of the highest rates of Covid-19 in the country, and many cases have been reported among container terminal workers in Cape Town, leading to a significant reduction in service to ships at the port terminal and prolonged berthing delays.

5. Port of Libya

As of 16 -June-2020, Libyan ports of Sirte and Dena were closed. Benghazi port is heavily congested. CMA-CGM will revise the port congestion surcharge in consideration of the current improvement in traffic congestion in Benghazi, Libya.

6. Port of Bangladesh

During the public holidays from Mar.,26 to May 31 during the outbreak of Covid-19, as ports were closed and importers did not accept shipments, imported goods were continued to be accumulated, which has been beyond those ports' capacity

Customs authorities have decreed that, to ease congestion, importers must submit entry documents within five working days after goods arrive at the port. The regulation went into effect on June-11-2020. As of July-10-2020, the maximum submission deadline is 30 days.
